| 초록 | 한국자원연구소는 남태평양 도서국가를 중심으로 결성된 SOPAC(남태평양 응용지구과학위원회)과의 지구과학분야의 국제협력을 도모하기 위하여 KIGAM-SOPAC양해각서(MOU)를 체결하고 과학기술부, 외교통상부의 지원하에 정책 및 지원사업의 일환으로 본 사업을 수행하고 있다. 금년에는 자원연 보유 지구과학기술지원을 통해 SOPAC 및 SOPAC 회원국과의 실질적인 기술협력을 강화하고 SOPAC의 요청에 의하여 서사모아지역 Savai'i해안의 연안 지형 및 지질조사를 수행하였으며, SOPAC이 운영, 관리하고 있는 Inforamtion Technology Center와 Petroleum Data Bank에 저장되어 있는 지질자료와 탐사자료를 공유하기 위해 자료저장 형태를 분석하였다. 자원연은 특히 광물자원프로그램과 환경과학프로그램의 전문가그룹 활동을 통하여 97/98 회계연도에 SOPAC이 수행하였던 사업을 평가하고, 99년의 사업계획을 검토하여 자원연의 99년 사업계획수립에 참고코자 하였다. 또한 SOPAC Work Program 수행을 위하여는 영국 지질조사소를 비롯하여 약 10여개국의 20여개 기관과 UNDP 등 10여개의 국제기구가 지원기관으로 참여하고 있어 각 기관의 SOPAC 지원활동에 관한 동향 분석을 통해 향후 지구과학분야의 발전 방향을 예측하고 지구적 규모의 국제적 공동연구사업개발을 위한 기초자료로 활용코자 하였다. 또한 SOPAC 회원국 중 육상자원이 비교적 풍부한 나라를 대상으로 단계적으로 각국의 자원정보를 분석하기 위하여, 금년에는 파푸아뉴기니의 1997년도 자원정보, 금은동광상과 관련된 광업계 및 석유산업에 관한 정보, 지질조사소의 활동자료를 정리하였다. 또한 금년 11월 서울에서 개최된 15차 한국-호주 자원협력위원회에 SOPAC Petrleum Bank(PDB)의 자료해석에 관한 의제를 제출한 바 있어 PDB를 관리하고 있는 SOPAC과 AGSO와의 새로운 협력이 기대된다. 이는 민간기업의 해외자원개발사업 진출을 유도하고 관련 자원정보를 지속적으로 공급하는데 목적이 있다. SOPAC 지구과학 프로그램지원사업은 자원연의 위상을 국제적으로 확립하는 동시에 SOPAC이 보유, 관리하고 있는 자료의 접근을 용이하게 하여 자료공유를 가능하게 하며 해외연구기관과의 기술교류를 활성화할 수 있는 계기가 마련되고 있으며, 국제사회의 일원으로서 아시아, 태평양지역의 발전을 위하여 역할이 크게 기대된다 Since the agreement of MOU between the KIGAM and SOPAC in 1997, the supporting activities were committed in the mineral program unit and environmental science program unit. The coastal morphology mapping, which was requested by SOPAC, was carried out by the KIGAM staff on the Savai'i island, Western Samoa. The objectives is to establish features of the coastal environment and active coastal processes, to identify potential resources areas for the future aggregate assessment and to compile coastal morphology data of the coastline form Saleologa to Pu'apua, Savia'i. The preliminary report will be submitted to the SOPAC Technical Secretariat in early 1999. The SOPAC Information Technology (IT) Center conitnued to produce a large amount of data in digital form and GIS-based database of onshore and offshore mineral exploration. KIGAM analyzed the database system and inventories if IT to share the database and technical cooperation. The onshore minerals activities are directed at Fiji, Solomon Island, Paua New Guinea and Vanuatu. To provide general assistance to explorers who are interested in developing the region's mineral wealth, KIGAM put effort into creating a preliminary mineral productions database in PNG during 1998. The petroleum potential of the South Pacific region is of interests through the brief examination of the survey data stored at the SOPAC Petroleum Data Bank, which is managed by AGSO in Canberra. KIGAM pursued the preliminary mandate to assess and promote the petroleum potential of the region. KIGAM hopes to update its database through the collaboration with AGSO for the high priority islands countries such as Vanuatu and Solomon Islands. As a long-term strategy towards SOPAC region, KIGAM will extend its working areas with geoscience capability and actively cooperate with the individual island country, ralated organizations and SOPAC Secretariat |
