초록 The estimated amount of magnetite deposits is about 185 million tons in Korea, but the iron grade of the magnetite is less than 45%. Although we were trying to make a good magnetic fluid with the magnetites form Synemi mine and Peruvian ores during 1996, it was out of limit due to high impurity contents of the raw ores. In 1997, in order to prepare the better magnetic fluid, the nano sized magnetite was synthesized at first and then the magnetic fluid was prepared by using the synthesized ultrafine magnetite. Also we compared the characteristics of our magnetic fluid in speaker damper to those of Japanese magnetic fluid (NFC, APG-815). Especially, it was found that the synthesized magnetic fluid with 20% magnetite content was more effective than APG-815(NFC). In this study, the research goals are to make the best magnetic fluid such as iron-nitride based magnetic fluid. We obtained the following results from the experiments in this year: We have made an iron-nitride magnetic fluid with iron carbonyl and ammonia gas for the first time in our country. The synthesized iron-nitride magnetic fluids has a higher saturation magnetization and its particle sizes become larger at a higher concentration of iron carbonyl. In order to coat the surface of the iron-nitride particles, we added the titanium and cobalt in the iron-nitride magnetic fluids. The titanium reduced the saturation magnetization of iron-nitride magnetic fluids. On the contrary the cobalt increased it. When the iron-nitride magnetic fluids was exposed to the air, the weight of the both uncoated and coated iron-nitride magnetic fluid increased gradually. The increase of the weight is likely caused by the oxidation of the iron-nitride particles. The saturation magnetization of the iron nitride magnetic fluids decreased rapidly with increasing the exposure time, and it approached zero after 1008 hours of exposure time. The final oxidation materials of the iron nitride at room temperature are considered to be non-magnetic materials such as FeO and/or α-Fe₂O rather than ferromagnetic magnetite (Fe₃O₄) and/or maghemite (γ-Fe₂O₃). It has been found that cobalt and titanium hand an effect on preventing the oxidation of iron-nitrides particles in the beginning of the air exposure
