Abstract Eleven fission-track(FT) and seven K-Ar ages were obtained for age-undefined volcanic units and related hypabyssal rocks in the Ogcheon Belt : i.e., FT zircon ages for the Hoemunsan Tuff(124Ma), quartz porphyry (80-68Ma) and crystalline acidic tuff(75-73Ma) from the central to mid-western area; K-Ar whole-rock ages for basaltic andesite-andesite (69-48Ma) from the northeastern Tongri basin. The FT age, 124Ma, gives a new guideline for the late Neocomian volcanism in the Sunchang area. These new age results, together with previous dates, give new geochronological guidelines for volcanic and hypabyssal activities in the Early Cretaceous-Middle Eocene time: i.e., 67-42Ma in northeastern Tongri basin; 138-66Ma in central Yeongdong-Geumsan-Unjangsan area; 124-60Ma in mid-western Byeonsan-Naejangsan-Sunchang area; 83-48Ma in southwestern Naju-Gwangju-Neungju: and 102-73Ma in southernmost Haenam-Jindo area. The proposed guidelines are summarized in Table 18. Major oxides and rare earth elements geochemistry on volcanic rocks reflect subduction-related volcanisms in the active continental margin. Carbon and oxygen stable isotope ratios (δ13CPDB=-3.9-7.7‰; δ18OSMOW=-20.5 ~ -26.3‰) of calcites occurred in volcanic rocks indicate a magmatic origin
